Pirate Nuffnangers together gather watch movie
But the Kojak died halfway through the movie though. Pardon me for the spoiler, I couldn't help it! LOL!!! Anyway, it does not matter with or without him in the movie. He ain't outstanding in the movie anyway. It is confusing whether he is the bad guy or the good guy in the movie.
Expect the unexpected. Spoiler #2: A wedding in the middle of a pitched battle between the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman! Ridiculous? Tell me about it.
Spoiler #3: Davy Jones, the guy with tentacles face also died.
Spoiler #4: Will Turner was stabbed by Davy Jones and died. But he comes to live again because...(watch the movie yourself lah, this part is interesting!)
Enough of spoilers, later a lot of people come and tiu me...Heheheh!
My all time favourite character of POC is Captain Jack Sparrow. He is funny! And confusing. The way he slurs his lines and struts his way around definitely threw me off my seat and sent me rolling on the floor, laughing my ass off, literally. It enhanced the fun and excitement when a part of the blogsphere watched and laughed together gether with you!
I bumped into Wingz after the movie talking to a girl while we were on our way out. He was behind me. I also bumped into Kenny Ng who so happened to be somewhere nearby also after the movie, on our way out. I managed to wave and said hi. Haha! He said he went there right after work. I was kind of tired after the movie though so did not talk much. Pai seh ah, Kenny!
*thumbs up for this movie even though POC 1 remains the best*
Thank you, Nuffnang, for the tickets! Looking forward to join more activities in the future. Thanks a lot to Exabytes for the popcorn and the soft drink. If it wasn't for you, I think I'd dehydrate after 3 hours in the hall.

Let's together gether become PIRATES at Cineleisure
On Thursday, 24th May 2007, the world is about to witness the first ever bloggers' movie night together gether as a big family of pirates!I was napping soundly just now after squeezing my brain through Risk Management exam this morning. A call woke me up from my royal slumber.
Clare: [mumbling sleepily] Hello?
Caller: Hello, may I speak to Clare please?
Clare: [still sleepy] Yes, speaking.
Caller: I'm calling from Nuffnang and you have just got yourself free ticket to watch Pirates of the Caribbean 3 on 24th May.
Clare: [fully awake now] Oh...
Caller: And (don't know what what what)....you got yourself 2 tickets for the movie. That means you are allowed to bring a date to the movie.
Clare: Mmm...hmm
Caller: All you have to do is send an email to pirates@nuffnang.com and tell us your date's name.
Clare: Okay. I'll do it tonight.
Caller: Okay, and we'll reserve 2 tickets for you then.
Clare: Thank you.
I thought I was dreaming! After pinching myself hard and double-checked my received call, it was indeed true! Then slowly it sank in: I JUST GOT MYSELF TICKETS TO THE OPENING NIGHT OF PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 3!!!

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Did I mention that we are going to watch the movie as pirates? Yes, we are supposed to dress up as PIRATES for the Best Dressed Pirate Contest on the night itself. The prize? A 3D2N trip for two to Singapore (transport and accommodation included)
It would be like a pirates' party, no? I am so looking forward to it! Thank you, Nuffnang!
Who else is going?
*Ps: Who wants to go with me???*

MARIM Student Chapter AGM
With a fellow coursemate, Foo Kiat, we took up the posts as the emcees for the event. No, we are both inexperienced in emcee-ing but we did a pretty good job that night.Yes, I still get to camwhore with my fellow coursemates and my lecturer, Mr. Shahrul Nizam Ahmad - the bespectacles guy with moustache wearing a long-sleeves shirt standing in the middle, who taught us Property and Liability Insurance I and II. This year he's the Head of Risk and Insurance Managment Department of our faculty. Highly recommended lecturer for taking up his classes. No regrets.
The lady wearing floral shirt in the middle is one of my favourite lecturer, Dr. Lim Chee Chee who taught us Life and Health Insurance last semester, Risk Management for this semester. Another highly recommended lecturer because she gives away marks pretty easily and attending her class is fun because she allows us to talk and receive calls, etc. LOL~!!! Oh, and you are allowed to fish (sleep) in the class as well!
Some of my coursemates
(I don't even know the names of some of them)

Photo-taking session with the emcees
L-R (seated): Ah Long, Khai and Keat
L-R (standing): Yours Truly, Foo Kiat and Pao Li
While Foo Kiat chats with Mr Shahrul, yours truly took the opportunity to be in the spotlight! She's just like a penguin, ain't she? I mean the girl on the lower left corner of the pics.
In a nutshell, it was an eventful night. Being an emcee was not at all hard and need no effort at all. Being impromtu is the easiest because if there's a prepared text, it cramps my style! Hahaha!!! At the end of the night, Dr Lim told me that I did a pretty good job *smile* I'd love to become the emcee again in the future events.

The Spring Fest Exhibition Competition 1
An empty booth was given and we were expected to decorate it with whatever we could think of in 4 hours. Not that we were not prepared, we had but the organizing committee was very uncertain in telling us the facilities we would be supplied that we could not come up with something unique.
After working like dogs for 4 straight hours, our booth looked something like this.
The other residential colleges used red as their background colour as well as their theme. But we opt for peach because we distorted the theme a bit and came up with "Peach and Harmony".
I contributed the mandarin oranges as they were almost dehydrated and it was really a picturesque view from a certain angle. The background was the other booth opposite ours.
Our signature Wishing Tree which was supposed to be a pussy willow but turned into a wishing tree as more and more people thronged our booth to write their wishes FOC. Guess how much the cost of the whole tree?
In that two days, I have to give three presentations regarding the things that we displayed and a little bullshit and craps here and there. Two impromptu presentations on the first day, just to impress the judges (both are language lecturers) with my purposely faked ang moh and another impromptu presentations on the second day for the third judge with yet another faker ang moh because I know the third judge's level of ang moh very the jia lat. Hahaha!!! Just to impress all of them, you know, ass-kissing and boot-licking, etc. LOL!!!
...the more fitting, midriff revealing SARI!!!
Vanekkam!

Up all night
A reunion dinner is the binding force of all Chinese families. In Chinese, it is called "Eve Of Dawn" which means the end of the old year and the beginning of the new year. At the place where I came from, we called it "Sa Chap Meh" (in Hokkien, means 30th night). The last day of the Chinese lunar calendar is marked by this important meal so it is crucial that every family member return home for this occasion. It was a taboo to have one or more family members absent at the dinner table. But having brought up in a fully Catholic family, we don't believe in such thing as taboo, but for the sake of tradition i.e. Chinese tradition, it became an unwritten official rules that everybody in the family must be present on Sa Chap Meh. We always say the 'grace before meals' anyway.
While having the reunion dinner, do not eat hastily - the longer the time spent at the table, the better. It signifies unity and the long-lasting relationship of the family. A good news for all the aunties and ah sohs for they can sampat and kay poh longer and torture the younger generations with questions like "Got boyfriend/girlfriend or not?", "When want to get married?" or comparing the price of fish in the market (Don't ask me why fish). Moreover, the dishes must convey auspicious meanings. Dishes that bear good tidings are radish (pronunciation similar to 'a good start' in Cantonese), a type of edible weed that looks like a tuft of hair called fatt choy (pronounced as 'wealth and properity' in Cantonese) and fish (sounds the same as 'having excess' in Mandarin). Thus the saying "Nien nien you yu" was being directly translated into "Every year got fish" or "Tahun-tahun ada ikan" when we were kids.
But the ancient Chinese went to great extents to make sure that their aspirations came true. I bet if they heard how we distorted the translation, we'd be dragged to the altar of execution without mercy! LOL!!! That was why they would buy a live fish and leave it swimming happily in a basin of water before dinner because 'swimming fish' sounds the same as 'having excess wealth' in Chinese. It would then be cruelly mutilated while it is still alive. Yummy!
During this transition from the old year to the new, it would be a taboo to have an empty or half-filled rice urn. The rice urn must be filled to the brim and stuck with a piece of red paper that has the Chinese characters 'always full' written on it. They believe that this ritual will transfer the rice from the previous year to the next, which also means that the family will have excess wealth and their rice urn will be perpetually full. After the elaborated reunion dinner, comes the moment that everybody is waiting for.

The elders must present the greedy kids with money-filled red packets or ang pows. But the money cannot be used for a new Gameboy or Pokemon cards; it must be deposited into the piggy bank because to have it empty on the eve of Chinese New Year is a taboo. After depositing the money, you should also stick a piece of red paper with the Chinese characters 'always full' on it. You will then be blessed with a constant supply of pocket money throughout the year. I wonder why I am broke throughout the year...?

As Chinese New Year springs around, homes are normally decorated with scrolls of auspicious greetings to usher in good tidings. There is also the tradition of staying up late on the eve of Chinese New Year. Why torture yourself? Because to stay up late on this special night is believed to enhance your parents' longevity and health. If the previous year had been an especially horrendous one, it would be a good idea to stay up until dawn. This is believed to be an effective method for improving one's luck. So, kids...you are allowed to stay past your bed time! This time your parents won't chase you up the room with rotan.

Seriouly ar? Watch lots of DVD movies on the night before Chinese New Year. No Glitter or Gigli please - you want to stay awake, remember?
**This post is supposed to be posted tomorrow but I've got the inspiration, so what the heck!**

Racism? You decide
I used to play with these firecrackers when the auspicious day arrived.
These are my all time favourite. Used to blast rubbish bins in the neighbourhood with these!

Above all, this is a must for every Chinese New Year
I did not come back for the new year last year. I celebrated the auspicious day in Penang. I did not expect Penang Island to be so quiet at the stroke of midnight but, heck, it was! In my humble opinion, there is no celebration without NOISE, FOOD, MUSIC, etc. When I was at the island, there was not even a single farting noise to be heard. It was so gravely quiet that the silence is deafening!!!
I always like it when it comes to celebration in Sibu. You can do almost anything illegally legal here. Celebration in Sibu is at its optimum level where 30 minutes before the stroke of midnight, folks here have already ushered in the New Year with loud BANGS and BOOMS that are worse than the American bombing the Iraq, till around 1am. The night sky would be so decorated with all kinds of fireworks display that it really put the ang moh New Year to great shame!
A lot of time, I watched with amazement at how much money Sibu folks are burning during Chinese New Year. And I mean REAL money, not hell money. The display on the night sky explains it all. Well, fireworks are quite easy to get here if you know the LOBANG to dig them.
But hor, why is it that everytime comes this day, the police are so damn hardworking seizing firecrackers??? Why they did not do anything during Hari Raya??? I don't know whether you realized it or not but there are no news about the seizing of banned firecrackers in the media during Hari Raya Puasa. NIL!
But when it comes to Chinese New Year, the news even make it to the headlines! Besides, the mentioned news would be splattered all over the newspapers even weeks before the celebration. What is the main purpose of this? Blackmail us cina? And the police force hor, are so damn hardworking especially now. They are almost anywhere that you don't need them i.e. hiding behind bushes to slap you with summons for offence you did not commit, speed trap at strategic locations where it is impossible for you to drive below 60kmph, seizing fireworks at customs, etc. But during that certain time of the year (you know when I mean), where are they???
Why only during CHINESE New Year that they are so full force to curb 'social problems'? I thought they always say LAW treats everyone equally. And this means that for EVERY festive seasons in Malaysia, they should show the same effort like those done during CNY celebration!
Now, you tell me...this is obviously racism, no?
Am I right or am I right???
Don't like what I've just mention?? Sue me!!!

Shock of my life on Valentine's Day
The day has come. Love is in the air. Cupids are busy shooting their arrows of love around (fingers cross that they don't mis-shoot) Roses are sold like hot cakes even though florists sell them double or tripple the normal price on this day. Chocolates. Teddy bears. What-else?
Pity the guys. This cursed day is sure going to burn a huge hole in their wallet. Valentine's Day is supposed to be meaningful without gift-spoiling your girlfriends. But hor, things are so commercialized nowadays that the true meaning of Valentine's Day is extinct like the dinosaur. Saint Valentine's probably didn't think that this day will make the world turns upside down because of him!

Probably this day is actually to spoil your girlfriend with lots of expensive stuff to make her happy. Then what? What do you guys get anyway??? Nothing, right? Also hor, to make your single friends jealous lor. Ya lar, after come back from the romantic dinner with all those typical gifts, they're gonna brag and bitch about it 24/7 for A WEEK!!! Listen between the lines, they are actually telling you that "So, you are one heck of a lonely pathetic loser without a date on Valentine's Day so I'm here to cheer you up and squeeze the envious juices outta you"
*Oh, there's someone outside. Be right back*

Talk by US Ambassador in UUM
A hall FULL of students, lecturers, the press, etc!
The hall was so freezingly cold that I was practically shivering. Students were listening attentively to the ang moh talking
Two girls, obviously a Chinese (on the left) and a Malay (on the right) were caught dozzing off when the ang moh spoke. Probably couldn't understand what on earth he was talking about
Okay, enough of the hall. Now, the talk actually was about the GOOD relations between United States and Malaysia in many aspects like politics, economic, social, so-on-and-so-forth-I-don't-know-because-I-did-not-really-pay-any-attention-to-what-the-fuck-he-was-saying.
"Malaysia and US share interests in anti-terrorist bla bla bla..." was all I heard and also "95% of Dell laptops sold in the US of A is made of Malaysia" Sure bo? And he went on dilly dally yadda yadda about how good the relationship between Malaysia and US have. I went "WTF?!!" silently all the time and tried to keep myself from laughing out loud.
Then during the Q & A session, a lot of fucking assholes asked about the war on Iraq thingy. Most of the questions are stupid and they all basically were of the same zone! Boring! Then suddenly a lecturer (probably a Professor) went up the podium (to use the microphone only, not to punch the ang moh) and shoot the ang moh kao kao till his face also turned blue! LOL*
"I have TWO questions here. First, you America is a powerful country. And no doubt you're an influential country as well. But you broke the International Law by launching the war on Iraq!!! Being a role model to the world, you shouldn't break the international law but you did. Hopefully you have a good explanation for that."
The hall went noisy. Everybody was talking.
The professor continued, "Excuse me for my harshness but I think everyone present here would like to know the truth. And second, I don't think that your invasion in Iraq was to search for the weapon of mass destruction. You are actually setting up a base to prepare for the World War 3, aren't you?!!! I did not say that, a lot of Americans said that."
The ang moh diam diam for a while. Then he went "Now...now...bla bla bla" with all those tongue-twisting facts and the American accent. I did not pay attention to what he was saying though.
Well, this is the first time (and maybe the only time) that I attended a fully-English talk. Things are never English in UUM. Now you know why local university graduates scored only Band 1 and Band 2 in MUET is something to be PROUD of!!!
